"You must lose a fly to catch a trout"

Oh wow, let me tell you about the Pyeongchang Trout Festival
—it was such an amazing experience being there!
Pyeongchang really knows how to show off its local charm and make visitors feel at home.

The festival was created back in 2007 after the big flood in 2006 to help the community recover,
and it turned into one of Korea’s most popular cultural tourism events.
The Odaecheon River is stunning,
especially with the trout swimming n its cool waters,
and the whole area was just filled with excitement.

The highlight of the festival?
Bare Hands Trout Catching! It was challenging but so much fun!
We geared up in short-sleeved T-shirts, pants, shoes, and towels,
and then dove right in to catch trout with our bare hands.
The hands-on experience made it extra thrilling and unforgettable!

We also did tent fishing which was cozy, especially with the cold winter air around us.
You can fish in these warm tents with your family or friends,
and then have the trout prepared on-site—either sashimi or grilled.
We think it made for the perfect winter activity.

There were plenty of other fun activities, too, like sledding, snow rafting, and even an ice bike!
What’s even better is that the ice sledding course was set up to make you feel like you’re on a mini roller coaster!
You definitely feel the rush as you zoom down the track,
and it's fun to compete with your friends to see who can make it the fastest.
We went on a bumper car ride after ice fishing, and it was a hilarious way to wrap up the day.
The Food Village is a highlight in itself, offering a variety of delicious meals and snacks.
You can taste fresh sashimi or grilled trout,
and there are plenty of other warm dishes to keep you fueled for all the activities.
It's a cozy spot to relax and try some local dishes after all the excitement.

The atmosphere was so lively, and everyone from young kids to adults were enjoying themselves.
It really helped us understand the local traditions and the importance of Pyeongchang’s history,
all while having an unforgettable time.
And you can still join us, and enjoy this festival.
